Dansoman residents demonstrate over stalled development

Some concerned residents of Dansoman a suburb of Accra marched the streets to protest over stalled development in the area.

According to them, Saturday’s Ku Y3 Preko has become necessary to register their displeasure because the lack of development in the area makes life unbearable.

Wearing red armbands and bandanas, the protesters marched through the streets from Dansoman Last Stop to the office of the Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly.

“I live around Dansoman Agege and whenever it rains all activities come to a halt because no one can go out and come in. There is garbage all over the place,” a resident said.

Another resident who lives at Dansoman Last Stop said the stalled development makes life unbearable.

“The road network in Dansoman is terrible, I have a car but due to the nature of the roads, I have resorted to the use of motorbike.

“This is an opportunity for us to inform the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and Member of Parliament of our predicament,” the aggrieved resident said.

The demonstrators later presented a petition to the MCE of the area, George Cyril Blay, who indicated that the protest was for the wrong reasons.

“It is unfortunate you did not take the pain to approach the Assembly to ask what they are doing for the municipality.

“Clearly, all that you are asking for are things done in the past, and we will appeal to you that in the future, it will be most appropriate to approach the Assembly first before hitting the streets,” he told the protesting residents.

The leader of the group, Ebenezer Quartey said they were was disappointed with the MCE’s response and have vowed not to rest until their demands are met.

“We are not happy at all, what the MCE is saying is full of untruth, we voted for an MCE for development but we are not seeing it.

“We will go home and sit down with our leaders to come out with what to do next,” he said.
