Election 2020: Who Leads NDC? Vetting Results To Be Announced Today

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will later today announce the result for its flagbearership vetting process held on Tuesday.

All seven flagbearer aspirants faced the party’s vetting panel on Tuesday to be assessed for their readiness and ability to lead the party into the 2020 elections.

They are former President John Mahama, Alban Bagbin, Ekwow Spio Garbrah, Nurudeen Iddrisu, Prof. Joshua Alabi, Sylvester Mensah and Goosie Tanoh.

The result of the vetting will indicate if all seven will in the end be on the ballot to be voted upon or whether some will be disqualified by virtue of their poor performance before the panel.

A member of the vetting committee, James Klutse Avedzi told is quoted as having said that

“Whatever the committee comes up with, is the position of all the seven members of the committee. We are meeting on Wednesday to finalize on the report and then issue to NEC. When NEC accepts it, we will make the announcement whether a candidate has been disqualified or qualified.”

Meanwhile, a Deputy General Secretary of the party Barbara Asamoah, said balloting for positions will be done later this morning.

“The vetting committee has scheduled 10am in conjunction with the party’s election committee to have the balloting done. The aspirants can send their reps to come and pick their positions for them. Hopefully, by 10:30am, all aspirants will know the position they will be on the ballot paper.”

Alban Bagbin, who was vetted first on Tuesday gave a good account of himself before the panel in the over 1-hour period they engaged him.

He said he is optimistic that he will sail successfully through the vetting process, and will eventually be given the nod to lead the party.

Bagbin’s vetting was followed by that of the former Vice Chancellor of the University for Professional Studies, Accra, Prof. Joshua Alabi, who told journalists that he was confident of being the eventual winner of the flagbearer elections.

John Mahama, Nurudeen Iddrisu, Goosie Tanoh, Sylvester Mensah and Ekwow Spio Garbrah also followed suit.
