Ghana Water Company to cut supply to Tamale, Savelugu, Nyankpala if…

Ghana Water Company Limited has said it may be forced to shutdown water supply to Tamale and its environs if illegal sand weaning activities around its Dalun treatment plant are not halted.  

According to the Public Relations Officer of the water company in the Northern region, their water extracting plants now only draw sand instead of water forcing the company to reduce its production by the day.

Ghana water company draw its water from the white Volta for treatment and subsequently supply same to residents of Savelugu, Tolon, Nyankpala, Tamale and its environs.

Total indebtedness of the company stood at Ghc 51.6m as of February 2019. This includes those of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA) which forms seventy percent of the total debt.

Nii Abbey is troubled that if nothing is done to reserve challenges bedevilling his outfit the draught that may hit the communities in question may have a devastating effect on both economic, health and social life.
