Mahama condemn shooting at NDC Kumasi office after ‘Boot For Boot’ Comment

Ex-President John Mahama has condemned some disturbances at the Kumasi offices of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a Facebook post Monday, the flagbearer hopeful wrote, “it is clearly a criminal act, and I call on the police and relevant security agencies to investigate, immediately apprehend the culprits and subject them to the full rigours of the law.”

His comments follow a shooting incident at the party’s office in the Ashanti regional capital that led to the death of one person.

“He shot him first in the leg while he runs and twice in the chest at close range as he lay vulnerable,” the eyewitness said.

Luv FM’s Erastus Donkor Asare reported that another man was shot but he survived and is currently receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

A statement from the party confirmed the shooting and the death.

“The regrettable incident occurred while a meeting between the National Chairman, The General Secretary, a Deputy General Secretary and the Regional Executive Committee were ongoing,” the statement said.

But in sharp contrast to the account of eyewitnesses, the statement said: “some men on Motorbike wielding guns attacked a gathering outside, short indiscriminately and sped off.”

Shortly after the statement was released, a witness who had spoken to Joy News earlier would not speak anymore, citing an embargo from the party.

Police are investigating the episode.
